Ingredients & Substitutions
- Mayonnaise: This forms part of the base, making the ranch rich and creamy. If you don’t have any on hand, you can make homemade mayonnaise or use plain Greek yogurt or extra sour cream as substitutes.
- Sour Cream: Adds tanginess and a smooth texture. Plain Greek yogurt can also work as a substitute.
- Milk: Whole milk helps achieve the right consistency. If you don’t have whole milk, 2% or 1% will also work, though the ranch might not be quite as rich.
- Dill Pickle Juice: For an even bolder pickle flavor, we add 1/4 cup of dill pickle juice. Want it tangier? Add more! Lemon juice or vinegar can add some tang but won’t replicate the pickle taste.
- Pickle: Finely chopped dill pickles add both crunch and flavor to the ranch.
- Fresh Dill: If possible, we use fresh dill to brighten up the dressing with its fresh, herby taste. If using dried dill, we should start with about 1/2 teaspoon.
- Seasonings: A mix of garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper balances the flavor in every bite.
