Why Make Your Own Italian Seasoning

Store-bought blends can vary widely in taste and quality, but making your own gives you full control over freshness and balance. The mix of basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, and sage captures that classic flavor profile, without any additives or preservatives.

Substitutions and Adjustments

  • Customize the heat: Add more or less crushed red pepper flakes depending on your spice preference.
  • Skip the sage: For a brighter, milder mix, you can omit sage entirely.
  • Add garlic powder: If you use this primarily for savory meats, a teaspoon of garlic powder can round out the flavor beautifully.
  • Salt: We purposely left out the salt so that you can control it in your dishes, but if you prefer to premix with salt, can you always add it in.

How to Use Italian Seasoning

Sprinkle this blend in pizza sauce, chicken and rice soup, or over Italian Sliders. It’s especially great in tomato-based sauces, marinades, and soups where the herbs have time to bloom into the dish. Like our creamy sausage tortellini or lasagna soup.

Tips for Storage

Store your Italian seasoning in a tightly sealed jar in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. For the best flavor, use it within 6 months, though it will stay safe beyond that, just a bit less potent.
